"Make it as simple as possible, but not simpler." – Albert Einstein

Milton Glaser

Milton Glaser once said that design is the ability to communicate clearly by whatever means one can control or master. I like that. Simple.

My goal at HandEyeStudio is to create functional designs that inspire… and even that is up for debate. What appeals to one may not appeal to another. So the task remains to create images that open the viewer to a world of possibilities. When I was teaching full-time, I would often ask my children to observe an object and tell me what they saw. Inevitably, they would “argue” about who was right. Over the years, they began to see that being “right” was purely subjective and there was no “right.” There just was.

Design is everywhere. I once read that the average American sees over 16,000 advertisements, logos, and labels in a single day. Sixteen thousand! Indeed, design is everywhere.

The real issue is not talent as an independent element, but talent in relationship to will, desire, and persistence. Talent without these things vanishes and even modest talent with those characteristics grows. – Milton Glaser
